New Doughnut Shop Opening, Bringing Family Recipes To Edgewater
EDGEWATER, MD - Blondie's Doughnuts is opening its first brick-and-mortar location this weekend in Edgewater.
The eatery is owned by Michelle Diggs, a pharmaceutical consultant turned baker. She learned to bake from her mother and grandmother.
Diggs still uses her family recipes, never using mixes or synthetic ingredients. Her brioche dough rises naturally for 36 hours. All the glazes, custards and creams are also made in house.
"Growing up in a traditional Southern family, food was the center of daily life, from holiday gatherings, to life celebrations, and even funerals," Blondie's said on its website. "These interactions reinforced the connective power of good food and its ability to build bonds within families and communities."
Blondie's will have classics like hot glazed doughnuts and cinnamon rolls. There will also be specialty doughnut flavors like s'mores and strawberry shortcake.
Blondie's started as a food truck and a caterer. The company said it has served more than 20,000 customers so far.
The new 2,000-square-foot shop will seat 13 people.
Foodies have anticipated this opening for more than a year. Patch first saw that Blondie's was opening at 8 Mayo Road in April 2022.
The shop will host a grand opening from Friday through Sunday.
This weekend's hours are:
- Friday: 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Saturday: 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Sunday: 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The hours have not been announced beyond that.
Anybody in line by closing time will be served.
Customers with a Blondie's Doughnut coin can skip the line. The coins, on sale for $65 here, earn patrons a free treat with a purchase during every visit for a year.
The eatery is located in the Shops at South River, a strip mall at Solomon's Island Road and Mayo Road. Blondie's is sandwiched between Saigon Palace and ABC Appliance.
