ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MD - An officer with the Anne Arundel County Police Department was arrested in a domestic assault case, authorities announced Monday.

Police identified the suspect as Officer First Class Tyrell Thomas.

Authorities said they suspended the 32-year-old with pay, pending an internal investigation. This is normal protocol for officers charged with most crimes.

The Baltimore Police Department responded Saturday to a report of a domestic assault in their jurisdiction, a press release said.

Responding officers arrested Thomas and charged him with second-degree assault, court records show.

Neither the Anne Arundel County nor Baltimore police departments released any specific information on the encounter that led to Thomas' arrest.

Authorities said Thomas has been with Anne Arundel County police for 3 years. He is assigned to the Bureau of Community Services.
