About South
Jennifer Carr is the Volunteer Coordinator for the South River Federation. She manages the Federation's Patch.com blog page. The Federation would like to thank Patch.com for their continued support!
The South River Federation works to protect, preserve, restore and celebrate the South River and its interdependent living community.
Protect means to value and respect the natural environment, including the river and the living resources that depend upon it. The Federation believes that the River is a privilege for all to enjoy and that as inhabitants of the land that ultimately determines the health of the River, we have an obligation to be good stewards of the River. In carrying out this duty to protect, the Federation reviews land use plans, advocates for strong laws and regulations and identifies and stops sources of pollution.
Preserve means to retain the natural features of the watershed that are currently vibrant and healthy, such as forests and wetlands that play important water quality and habitat functions.
Restore means to return the river to good health. This includes turning muddy water clear, reducing pollutants that have a negative impact on water quality, and improving conditions in the river that enable fish, river grass and other natural vegetation to thrive.
Celebrate means to enjoy the river as a place for sport and recreation, a calm place to get away to, and an opportunity to connect with nature.
