The Aftermath of Irene: Schools Closed Today and the Dump is Open
Power is out in a number of county schools, including the headquarters. Department of Public Works will have Sudley Convenience Center open.
Just 24 hours ago, the last winds and rain of Hurricane Irene were beginning to move out of the area and into New Jersey, New York and Connecticut. Many residents in Edgewater and Davidsonville spent Sunday assessing damage from fallen trees, clearing branches off of driveways, and scooping leaves out of swimming pools. One home on Monarch Drive in South River Colony was condemned after a large tree fell on the house. Anne Arundel County Public Schools announced Sunday evening that schools would be closed on Monday, due to power outages at a number of school facilities, including the administrative headquarters on Riva Road.
