If you'd like to learn more about the Chesapeake Bay area and share your enthusiasm for nature with others, there are opportunities to volunteer at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center (SERC) in Edgewater. According to an announcement from the Volunteer Center for Anne Arundel County, SERC is looking for volunteers to support its school and public education programs. Volunteer opportunities include: field trip assistants, canoe guides, aquarium maintenance team, trail guides, office assistants, classroom helper, gardeners, and curriculum designers. If you are looking for ways to help others this holiday season, Arundel Lodge has several opportunities. The nonprofit needs volunteers to help with prep work, serving and cleaning up on Thanksgiving Day. The dinner will be served Nov. 22 at the Arundel Lodge at 2600 Solomons Island Rd. in Edgewater. Do you have a child looking to get involved in Edgewater, Davidsonville or south county communities? The Volunteer Center For Anne Arundel County has updated its Youth Volunteer Guide, which lists more than 50 agencies that have volunteer opportunities available through 2013 for youth of all ages. The 2013 Youth Volunteer Guide is available for downloading free on the Volunteer Center’s website, according to a release. The guide includes a directory that identifies organizations based on their mission and the kinds of volunteer work that they offer.
