SoCo Chamber Hosting 'Christmas Crawl' Shopping Event

Eleven south county businesses are participating in a seasonal event, starting Friday, that encourages residents to keep their shopping dollars in the local community.

The Southern Anne Arundel Chamber of Commerce is partnering with 11 small businesses in south county as part of its holiday Christmas Crawl—a promotional shopping event aimed at supporting community establishments.  Starting on Black Friday—Nov. 23—and continuing to Dec. 15, the local chamber is inviting shoppers to embark on a local shopping spree adventure that journeys throughout the south county region. In the Christmas Crawl, residents can go from store to store without traveling too far in between and knock out their holiday shopping lists. The businesses partnering in the “crawl” primarily offer antiques, collectibles, home decorations and consignment items. However, residents doing the “crawl” can stop off at partnering eateries …

The chamber hopes to help local business owners who work alongside their spouses or partners and address specific challenges that arise in the workplace.

Update (10/8 10:00 a.m. )—Running a small business in the current economic climate can be hard enough, but imagine handling those struggles while working alongside the person you love—day in and day out.  It’s a reality for many business owners in south county and throughout the region, so that’s why the Southern Anne Arundel Chamber of Commerce is hosting a special dinner this fall to discuss specific challenges facing those businessmen and women. Initially scheduled for Sept. 20, chamber president Cindy Morgan told Patch that a scheduling conflict with the key speaker forced them to postpone the seminar to a later date yet to be announced. Couples that work together side by side all day then go home together need boundaries. I agree with Sue with regards that the couple needs to set the boundaries, however a licensed couple therapist and a business coaches can give great solutions and pointers to help the couple themselves make good healthy decisions. I am sure a vast majority of couples could benefit by a good healthy suggestions.   more ›

PHOTOS: South County Festival

The Southern Anne Arundel Chamber of Commerce's big event on Saturday was a huge hit.

Sometimes, having a 1989 Oldsmobile Cutlass isn't the most convenient way to get around town, especially when temperatures in the 100s prohibit the engine from working properly. However, thanks to the members of the Southern Anne Arundel Chamber of Commerce, car troubles didn't keep Patch from getting some great photos from Saturday's community gathering.  The South County Festival, hosted by the chamber, brough togther residents and business leaders for an all-day event featuring food, games and fun. Whether it was a booth hosted by Perfect Pet Resort in Lothian or a Cub Scout sailboat competition, there was plenty to check out amid the hot June temperatures.  Cindy Morgan, president of the Southern Anne Arundel Chamber of Commerce, …

My turn to be nitpicky. Boy Scout Troops 853 from Shady Side and 741 from Deale presented the flags and helped with clean up. It will be the same two troops in the Shady Side parade July 4th.   more ›

What To Expect at South County Festival?

I'm super excited about my first-ever south county festival, but I need your help.

As someone who’s new to south county, I know I have a lot to learn about the community and the character of its people. But despite my “newness,” I’m excited about this weekend’s South County Festival, taking place in Tracys Landing at Herrington Harbour North Marina. The festival takes place on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. I know there will be live music, great food, exhibits from local businesses and a whole lot more.  The event, sponsored by the Southern Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce will feature a variety of entertainment, activities and demonstrations for children and adults.  What should I look forward to at the festival? Tell me in the comments.
