Three Local Teachers Receive National Board Certification

Sarah Meijiao Chen (South River High), Sarah Fran Freeberg (Southern High) and Rosemarie Santare Schwer (Southern Middle) each earned the honor.

Forty-five educators at Anne Arundel County Public Schools (AACPS) recently attained the prestigious National Board Certification—the highest teaching credential given to educators in the country. Among those were three educators from the southern portion of the county, including two from the Southern High School cluster. More than 6,200 teachers nationwide earned the honor, and Anne Arundel County’s 45-member class put it seventh in the nation among school systems with certification recipients, according to an AACPS release.  The list of local recipients included teachers from South River High, Southern High and Southern Middle.  Approximately five percent of all AACPS educators earned the certification, and with the 45 new additions, the…

13 New Teachers Coming to South River High

One new educator came as far as San Deigo to be a part of the Seahawk staff.

Thirteen new teachers are coming to South River High for the upcoming school year, with one traveling as far as San Diego for the job. South River High Assistant Principal George Beaumont sent Patch a list of the new additions to the Seahawks’ staff. The 13 educators will be teaching a variety of subjects including art, tech-ed, social studies, science, dance, math and English. Nathan Burd, a science teacher, traveled some 3,000 miles for the new job after he previously taught in San Diego, Beaumont said. The majority of new teachers at South River High came from Anne Arundel County Public Schools (AACPS). Besides Burd, only English teacher Emily Rospigliosi taught outside the county—in the Prince George’s school system. Here is a run down…

It is about time! That teaching cesspool has needed cleaning out since my kids were there in the early 90s. Then it was the MIA principal and his toadys that were the main problem. I wish the new folksluck...the teachers union brass will be a tough bunch to go against, but our children and grandchildren in this area deserve better than what they have been getting.   more ›
