Wildermuth submitted the following article to Patch.  The South River Boys Lacrosse team claimed its second Maryland 4A/3A State title in four years as they rallied past the Westminster Owls—overcoming a 7-0 deficit to start the game and winning it 10-8 as the final whistles sounded. After the Owls built tremendous momentum throughout the first and second quarters, Tyler White netted the first Seahawk goal with 4:30 remaining in the first half. South River Boys Lacrosse Chase Perfection, State Title

South River's boys lacrosse coach says the team isn't playing just for a state championship, it's playing to honor an entire community.

When South River’s boys lacrosse team takes the field at UMBC Stadium Wednesday afternoon to face Westminster High in the 4A/3A State Championship, they won’t be playing just for themselves—they’ll be playing for an entire community. In the final matchup of what could be an undefeated season for the team, head coach Paul Noone told Patch “the boys” know what they need to do, and that the game is a culmination of the community’s effort. “[This season] is a testament to the recreation leagues, the assistant coaches, teams in Crofton, Davidsonville and South River—they have quality guys that are teaching these kids,” Noone said. Hundreds of young kids play lacrosse in youth leagues throughout the region in hopes of one day playing for a state…

5 Seahawks Earn All-County Boys Lacrosse Honors

Attackman Ben Chisolm was also named to the 2012 All American list.

Of the 16 players named to the 2012 Anne Arundel County Coaches’ All-County boys lacrosse team, five play for South River High, according to The Capital. Attackman Ben Chisolm, attackman Jon Carr, midfielder Lavon Chaney, midfielder Chris Carr and defender Stephen Hincks were each recognized as some of the best players in the county after coaches elected them to the All-County squad. Not only were the players acknowledged, but head coach Paul Noone was named the 2012 Coach of the Year. It’s no surprise many Seahawks were named to the prestigious list. South River is heading into the 4A/3A Maryland Lacrosse State Championship undefeated—a perfect 19-0. While Noone said much of the team’s success is because of defense, four out of the five …

2 Seahawks, 2 Bulldogs Earn All-County Softball Nod

Jordan Sganga was the only local softball player named to the first team All-County list.

Local coaches selected one South River player to the Anne Arundel County Coaches’ All-County softball first team, according to The Capital. Jordan Sganga, a senior catcher, received the honor for her stellar hitting and defensive skills behind the plate.   The All-County team is comprised of 15 of the county’s best softball players. None of Sganga’s teammates made the first-team squad, but Seahawks’ pitcher Morgan O’Brien made it to the honorable mention list. Two Southern High softball players made the second team All-County list—shortstop Danielle O’Neill and outfielder Brooke Minemier. Both girls are seniors.  Head over to The Capital to see the full list of athletes on the list.

Old Mill Ends Seahawks' Playoff Run

South River's baseball team couldn't contain the No. 1 seeded Patriots, who scored nine runs.

Old Mill's offensive power was too much for South River's baseball team, as the Seahawks fell 9-1, losing in the second round of the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association 4A state playoffs.  In a rainy matchup in Millersville, South River kept the game close for the first three innings. Pitcher Charlie Hardesty pitched three and two-thirds innings, but it was the fourth inning when things started to unravel. Old Mill scored five runs in the fourth, making the score 7-0, and the Patriots never looked back.  With 10 strikeouts, Old Mill's dominant pitcher Josh Hader cruised through South River's lineup, only allowing two hits in six innings.  It wasn't until Hader was out of the game that South River scored a run. In the …

South River Defeat Broadneck, Will Face Old Mill

Second baseman Joe Scott set a new school record for runs scored in a season.

South River’s baseball team took out their frustrations on visiting Broadneck in the opening round of the playoffs with a 9-1 victory Friday afternoon.  The game served as a small piece of redemption after the Seahawks lost to the Bruins last week, 6-2.  The following post was submitted by John C. Tyrrell and edited. Pictures were submitted by professional photographer Jan Gratz. Scott Mitchell took the mound and was dominant, cruising through five innings allowing just one run. He struck out two, walked one and surrendered six hits on the way to the win. Austin Wright took over in the sixth and held Broadneck to no hits in two innings. He walked none and struck out two. Offensively the Seahawks jumped on Broadneck starter Mike Thomas when…
