Lighthouse Plaza on Solomons Island Road will bring new businesses to the area.
A new shopping center scheduled to open up on Route 2 will bring several new businesses to Edgewater—much to the dismay of area residents. Lighthouse Plaza is being built at 3145 Solomons Island Rd., and according to a spokesman with Anne Arundel County Planning and Zoning the shopping center already has plans to bring three new stores Advanced Auto Parts, Dollar Tree and Mr. Tire will all open in Lighthouse Plaza. News of the stores has drawn harsh criticism from residents who believe Route 2 is being overbuilt. “Doesn't Edgewater have enough shopping centers?” wrote D. Two pickup trucks collided with a minivan sending three people to shock trauma on Friday in Harwood.
Three people were seriously injured Friday afternoon in a three vehicle accident on Solomons Island Road in Harwood. A 2004 Ford F350 was traveling south on Solomons Island Road around 4 p.m. when it struck a 2006 Chrysler minivan that was stopped preparing to turn into a driveway near Harwood Road, according to police. The minivan was pushed by the force of the accident into the path of a GMC pickup truck, which struck the van. The driver of the Ford and two occupants in the van were taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma center for treatment, according to police. The driver of the GMC truck suffered minor injuries and was taken to Anne Arundel Medical Center. Police did not release the names of those injured. A preliminary …

The big, yellow Edgewater fireworks stand sells hundreds of products that will wow your neighbors this Fourth of July holiday.
Dan Thompson enjoyed the shade while sitting inside a large, yellow trailer perched on the southbound side of Solomons Island Road in Edgewater. The whir of propeller planes taking off at Lee Airport hummed in the cool June morning as the Parkville man watched hundreds of cars pass him by. Thompson was selling fireworks, so with every driver that drove by, so did their dollars. Despite the relatively “slow” day on Tuesday morning, Thompson said business will be booming this weekend, while he enjoys his fireworks stand’s “prime location” and “terrific” shopping community ahead of the July 4 holiday. “I’ve had competition set up right across the street before, but this is great,” Thompson said about his experience in selling fireworks. “This…
