Pitch Your Business Idea in Maryland Contest

Winning entrepreneurs will receive a MacBook Air or an iPad.

Gov. Martin O'Malley has taken to Pinterest, the image-friendly social media site, to "highlight Maryland entrepreneurs and small business owners" throughout the state.  Nominations can be pitched with 10 images on the governor's Pinterest page. Here is the Maryland Pinterest Business Pitch Contest board. “In Maryland, we have a rich history of fostering entrepreneurship. From our many incubators to our diverse centers and institutions of higher learning to our strategic tax credits, we encourage entrepreneurship at every level,” O’Malley said in a release. “Whether you’ve been in business for years or are just getting started, Maryland is the ideal place to do business and we encourage everyone to take advantage of this new contest.” …

Cyber Bullying—Coming Soon to a School Near You

How parents and schools can work together to keep kids safe.

Recently, school counselors at two area schools had to deal with a kind of cyber-identity theft problem, wherein a student created a Facebook page in the name of another student—and then used the page to write unpleasant things about other students and families in the school community.  Although there may have been similar incidents in other grades, Patch was contacted about these particular incidents that occurred at two elementary schools in Edgewater. The names and identities of the students involved are minors and are being withheld. While troubling for the victims, no criminal charges resulted from the incidents. At most local schools, counselors, teachers and administrators are seeing an increase in what school officials have dubbed…
