Starting Thursday, the Anne Arundel County SPCA will donate pet food to needy families with pets.
The Anne Arundel County Food Bank and the SPCA are teaming up to help local pets in need. Beginning on Thursday, the SPCA will host a Pet Food Bank, where families in need can pick up food for their furry friends. “The Pet Food Bank is an offering to the community for anyone who meets the low income requirements to help supplement their pet food purchases for the month,” said volunteer and foster coordinator Kim Teter. “So they don’t have to choose between keeping the pet and feeding them and their self.” Teter said this is the first time the SPCA has had a Pet Food Bank but it hopes to open up the drive every other Thursday. The event will start this Thursday at 9 a.m. The SPCA is working with the Anne Arundel County “people food bank,” …

One of the largest and oldest animal welfare organizations in the county is seeking volunteers.
If you need a reason to get involved with the SPCA of Anne Arundel County, Volunteer and Foster Coordinator Kim Teter has the perfect answer. “Where else can you go where 70 different dogs get beyond excited just because you’re there,” said Teter. To coincide with National Volunteer Week, Patch has been writing about various organizations in Anne Arundel County that are seeking volunteers. The SPCA of Anne Arundel County, at 1815 Bay Ridge Ave. in Annapolis, is one of those groups. “People love the greeting their pet gives them when they come home. Here that reaction is tripled or more,” Teter said. While Teter discussed ways people can get involved, she showed off various pets, all of whom she knew by name. And each was happy to see her…

I stumbled upon a cat colony while shooting some photos and learned that there's a long history with this specific group of felines. Cats R Us,
UPDATED (4 p.m.)—An anonymous donor decided to finance the spaying and neutering of all the animals at the Oak Grove Marina feral cat colony. Local cat lover Jennifer Carr volunteered to trap the animals and after reading the article on Edgewater-Davidsonville Patch, the anonymous donor contacted Carr to finance the effort with Cats “R” Us. "She contacted me through the article and offered to pay to have them spayed and neutered," Carr said. “All the puzzle pieces came together." Cats “R” Us trapped three of the animals Sunday night along with the help of local man who was feeding them for awhile, Carr said. In March while taking photos of a beautiful sunset over the South River by the Oak Grove Marina, I heard a rustling in the brush …
