A few Edgewater businesses are looking for a way to give back to the community that makes them successful. The first Edgewater Community Day and Barbecue will be held on May 19. Doggy D’tails owner Judy Heller orchestrated the event in an effort to bring together the people that support the businesses within the community. “Having lived in Edgewater for 17 years, I realized that communities around us had been doing similar events,” Heller said in a release. “It just felt like it was time to finally do something in Edgewater that focuses on giving something back to our neighbors that support our businesses.” Edgewater Community Day will feature food, giveaways, event-only deals at participating businesses, a dog-sport demonstration by …

The Rita's in Edgewater will celebrate the first day of spring with the annual free Italian ice promotion.
Wednesday is one of Rita’s most highly anticipated days of the year—the first day of spring, which means free Italian ice for all. The Rita's in Edgewater will give away seven-ounce cups of Italian Ice all day Wednesday—an endeavor owner Sruthi Reddy says takes several days to prepare for. "We make a lot of ice Tuesday and all day Wednesday, and we have everybody who works here scheduled tomorrow," Reddy said. "We have way more people work at a time than on a normal day." Last year during the promotion, the Rita’s chain gave away more than a million cups of ice. The Edgewater location handed out more than 2,000 servings. The Italian ice stand will begin a new season at noon on Friday.
In a sure sign that spring is right around the corner, Rita's Italian Ice will begin a new season on Friday. The Rita's in Edgewater will open up at noon on Friday. According to the stand's Facebook page, this season Rita's will offer new flavors and 24 different toppings. Rita's recently announced a new rewards program that allows you to earn loyalty rewards through an application on your smartphone. The Italian ice stand on Mayo Road will open for business on Feb. 22.
It may still be chilly outside, but Rita's will be opening before you know it and is seeking employees. The Rita's in Edgewater announced on its Facebook page that it is looking for "a few friendly and motivated high school students to work at the coolest place in town." Those interested in applying for a position with Rita's are encouraged to apply online. The Rita's in Edgewater will open for business on Feb. 22 with new ice flavors and 24 different toppings.
