South River High School’s Lavon Chaney led this year’s football squad to its first postseason since 2006. Chaney, who has committed to play football at Monmouth next year, led Anne Arundel County in rushing yards during football season and has now transferred his athletic talents to the lacrosse field. The defensive specialist was recently featured in The Washington Post after No. 6 South River easily handled county lacrosse rival Severna Park 10-5 on Tuesday night. The Seahawks remain unbeaten in Anne Arundel County play. The Washington Post article highlighted that while Chaney may do a lot of scoring during the football season—18 touchdowns his senior year—when it comes to lacrosse he prefers to be on the defensive side of the field. …

South River High School's Lavon Chaney, Michael Seaberg and Abbey Lawrence will continue their athletic careers in college.
Three South River High School athletes have recently committed to continue their athletic careers in college. According to athletic director David Klingel, football standout Lavon Chaney has committed to play football at Monmouth. Field hockey star Abbey Lawrence will be playing at Lasalle, and Michael Seaberg will swim at Duke. In the 2012 season, Chaney helped lead the Seahawks to their first postseason appearance since 2006. He consistently led the state in rushing yard and was named Capital Gazette Communications’ Football Player of the Year. During his senior year, Chaney led Anne Arundel County with 1,491 yards rushing and 16 touchdowns on 159 carries and averaged 9.4 yards per carry, according to The Capital Gazette. In field hockey…

South River fell to Old Mill in the regional semifinals Friday night as the Patriots' defense kept Connor Cox and his talented receiver corps at bay.
One of the most successful seasons in South River football’s history came to an end Friday night, as the Seahawks fell to reigning state champions, the Old Mill Patriots 21-7. After defeating the same Old Mill side in a shootout the previous week, the renowned South River passing game—led by senior quarterback Connor Cox and senior wide receiver Eric Young—was contained by a brutal Patriot secondary, which held the Seahawks to only three receptions in the first half. Patriots running back Shawn Brown made use of his 39 carries, as he gained a massive 225 yards and 2 scores on the ground.
