Plenty of local businesses are offering special discounts in honor of Black Friday. Here's a quick rundown of local deals, when businesses open, and also what large retail stores are offering in Annapolis. Kmart in Edgewater Offers big discounts on all items, opening at 8 p.m. Thanksgiving night and closing at 3 a.m. Friday morning. Kmart will reopen at 5 a.m. Friday. Parvilla Cycles Black Friday deals run all the way to Monday. Get 15-25 percent off on select in-store bikes, 15-20 percent off parts/accessories/clothing, and find clearance prices on other select items, including a $1,550 bike marked down to $800. The American Automobile Association estimates that 882,700 Marylanders will travel 50 miles or more Thanksgiving weekend.
Hitting the road this Thanksgiving? You're not the only one. The American Automobile Association (AAA) estimates that 882,700 Marylanders will travel 50 miles or more Thanksgiving weekend—less than a half-percent increase from last year. Over 90 percent of travelers will travel by automobile. And what do they plan to do after reaching their destination? You guessed it—visiting friends and family, eating and shopping, according to the AAA. This could add congestion to the major roadways serving Edgewater, Davidsonville and south county residents, namely Interstate 97 and Route 50. Analysts say a strong Black Friday number could predict a big season for retailers.

During the holidays, financial analysts try to anticipate whether there will be a strong Christmas shopping season based on the amount of money people spend on Black Friday. As the retail frenzy approaches in just a few days, Patch wants to know if you plan on going out into the shopping madness to snag that "perfect gift." Business Insider produced an article last year that broke down the numbers, and how that correlated to overall holiday shopping. In 2009, the Black Friday numbers ($345 per person) showed a downturn in per-person spending over the previous year. That foreshadowed low numbers for retailers during the 2009 holiday season.
