Kalas Funeral Home Hosts Annual Memorial Day Salute

George P. Kalas Funeral Home will host a ceremony on Saturday to honor those from Anne Arundel County who died during active duty this past year.

Service members who have lost their lives fighting for their country will be honored on Saturday at the fourth annual Memorial Day Weekend Salute at George P. Kalas Funeral Home in Edgewater. For the past month, the funeral home has been asking family members to submit names of loved ones who were killed on active duty. On Friday, a flag for each local service member lost will be placed in the grass area in front of Kalas Funeral Home. This is the fourth year the Edgewater funeral home has hosted the Memorial Day Weekend Salute, but this year they have added something extra. “This year we are doing something a little bit special,” said funeral assistant Don Rakoskie. “Fourteen servicemen from Anne Arundel County have been killed in action …

Survived by her son and two extremely close friends she called her “adopted sons,” and many great-great nieces and nephews. Carter was a 1926 graduate of Southern High and studied business at Strayer Business College in Washington. She worked for the Fox Film Corp. in Washington, DC, up until 1937. Johanna Privitera, 102, of Edgewater. Died Friday. Survived by her two sons—both of Edgewater—six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Privitera served as an administrative assistant at the U.S. Treasury Department for 30 years and then spent 18 years working at Catholic University. Eleanor Blackstock, 90, of Tracys Landing. Funeral Home Finalizes Details for Feeks' Memorial Tribute

Residents are encouraged to line Route 2 at 10 a.m. Monday to honor Edgewater Navy SEAL Patrick Feeks, as his body is escorted in to town.

After gaining approval from the Feeks family, the George. P. Kalas Funeral Home is moving forward with its special memorial tribute plan to honor Edgewater’s fallen Navy SEAL Patrick Feeks at 10 a.m. Monday. At about 10 a.m. Monday, residents are encouraged to line Solomons Island Road in Edgewater with flags “as their fallen hero comes home,” according to one funeral home employee. Feeks, a 28-year-old Navy SEAL, was killed Aug. 16 with seven other Americans and four Afghans when his helicopter crashed while fighting insurgents in Afghanistan. Hundreds are expected to attend Feeks’ viewing from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, but the funeral home’s staff members also are rallying the community to host a “welcome home tribute” for the “fallen …

Viewing Planned for Fallen Navy SEAL in Edgewater

The George P. Kalas funeral home also is trying to plan a special "welcome home" memorial event on Labor Day at 10 a.m.

Update (8/30 - 9:40 a.m.)—Efforts by the George P. Kalas Funeral Home to honor Edgewater’s fallen Navy SEAL, Patrick Feeks, have been temporarily put on hold, waiting for his family's approval. A staff member at the funeral home said they've decided to hold off on officially declaring any further memorial plans until the Feeks family gets back in town, and they receive word of approval. Feeks' viewing is set to take place next week at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home. The 28-year-old Navy SEAL was killed Aug. 16 with seven other Americans and four Afghans when his helicopter crashed while fighting insurgents in Afghanistan.
