Home game against Annapolis High brings funding, awareness to congenital lung disease.
Jillian Ferguson has spent the majority of her young life dealing with Cystic Fibrosis. The congenital lung disease has been a part of her daily routine since she was diagnosed at age three. Ferguson takes handfuls of medications throughout the day to keep her digestive system, respiratory function and pancreas all working properly. A skipped medicine or missed doctor's appointment can mean spending a week or more in the hospital. Even with the medicines, Jillian typically has to go for what she calls a "tune up" in a hospital setting about once every six months. For lots of kids, that would be a good enough reason not to get out and rough it up in a tough game like field hockey. Not for Jillian. For this Southern High senior, a game like…

In a battle of what will likely be the third best football team in the county, South River survived Severna Park, 33-28. Quarterback Connor Cox's stellar numbers (358 yards and five touchdowns) helped propell the Seahawks past Severna Park. Last Thursday, Old Mill powered its way to the top of the county standings. The Patriots defeated the county's only other undefeated side, Arundel High, 47-10. Running back Rob Chesson stole the show with a 203 yards and five touchdown performance. On Friday, Arundel will look to rebound against the struggling Bruins of Broadneck High. Broadneck, who won in dramatic fashion over Annapolis last week, knocked the Wildcats out of the state playoffs late year. Arundel will have a bit of revenge on the mind…

Field Hockey looks to remain on top while boys soccer looks to improve.
With school starting next week, Patch breaks down what to expect from South River's field hockey and boys soccer teams this season. Field Hockey Katie Corcoran enters her seventh year helming the South River field hockey program and follows a 2010 campaign in which her team went 15-2, losing 2-1 in the 4A East Region Finals to Severna Park. The Seahawks lose All-County midfielder Courtney Thompson (UMBC) but return their two leading scorers in junior forwards Jennie Milligan (15 goals, 11 assists) and Abbey Lawrence (15 goals, nine assists). Senior midfielder Stacey Mackintosh (11 goals, five assists, and four defensive saves) will help Milligan and Lawrence on attack. She will also bolster the defense, anchored by senior goalie Shannon …
