UPDATE: Man in Critical Condition Following Mayo Road Crash
Police said alcohol may have been a factor in causing the accident just before 10 p.m. Tuesday.
Update (11:15 a.m.)—A 30-year-old man is in critical condition after he lost control of his car and struck a utility pole on Mayo Road near Shoreham Beach Road on Tuesday, according to Anne Arundel County police. At about 9:55 p.m., southern district officers responded to the area of Central Avenue East, just north of Shoreham Road for a report of a serious car accident. Upon arrival, they found a 1998 Honda CR-V that had crashed into a utility pole. An initial investigation revealed that the driver drifted off the right side of the roadway and in an effort to correct himself, he overcompensated, steered sharply to the left and lost control of the car.
