Edgewater-Davidsonville Readers React to Leopold Verdict

Anne Arundel County Executive John R. Leopold was found guilty on Tuesday of two counts of criminal misconduct in office.

Anne Arundel County Executive John R. Leopold was found guilty of two counts of criminal misconduct in office on Tuesday and Edgewater-Davidsonville Patch readers have some strong reactions to the verdict.  Leopold faced a five-count grand jury indictment that included four counts of misconduct in office and one count of fraudulent misappropriation by a fiduciary. Leopold has been suspended from his duties in office and Chief Administrative Officer John Hammond is now serving as acting Anne Arundel county executive until a more permanent decision is reached. Patch readers sounded off on the news on Edgewater-Davidsonville Pactch's Facebook page. Many voiced frustrations with Leopold and said he abused his executive powers. Here's a roundup…

Carl Snowden Threatens to Sue 'The Capital'

At the end of a Tuesday night Annapolis Housing Authority meeting, Snowden accused the newspaper of unfair and erroneous coverage.

Carl Snowden, the beleaguered civil rights director for the Maryland Attorney General's Office, implied that he would pursue legal action against The Capital at an Annapolis Housing Authority meeting Tuesday night. Snowden is also the chairman of the Housing Authority's Board of Commissioners. The Capital journalist Elisha Sauers writes that Snowden delivered an unexpected 20-minute tirade against the newspaper, which he reportedly accused of providing unfair and inaccurate coverage of him. "When I see a newspaper recklessly print information without checking the facts … I move aggressively, and I use the courts," Snowden said at the meeting, according to Sauers' article. Tom Marquardt, editor and publisher of The Capital, told Patch that …

Police Release Details of Snowden's Arrest

Baltimore police said Carl O. Snowden was in a parked car with a sex offender on Friday.

Baltimore police released the details surrounding Friday’s arrest of Carl O. Snowden, stating that the Annapolis civil rights leader was sitting in a parked car with a registered sex offender when officers approached his vehicle, according to The Capital. The police report contradicts the words of Snowden’s attorney, Cary J. Hansel, who said Snowden was pulled over for a broken tail light. Snowden, the civil rights director of the Maryland Attorney General’s Office, was charged with marijuana possession in Baltimore on Friday, according to online court records. Reports say the civil rights director of the Maryland Attorney General’s Office was charged on Friday.

Carl O. Snowden, the civil rights director of the Maryland Attorney General’s Office, was charged with marijuana possession in Baltimore on Friday, according to online court records.  Snowden's attorney told The Capital that he is confident Snowden will be found not guilty of the drug charge and that he was with another person in his car Friday when he was pulled over by police for a broken tail light. Snowden is scheduled for a May 3 court date in Baltimore, according to online records. WJZ-TV reported that Snowden filed a $20 million lawsuit against Anne Arundel County Executive John R. ACLU Seeks Details on Leopold's Alleged 'Enemies List'

The group has filed a request for information about accusations that the county executive used police officers to build "dossiers" against political opponents.

The Maryland office of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is demanding more details about an alleged “enemies list” held by Anne Arundel County Executive John R. Leopold, and accused him of violating the First Amendment. The ACLU said Wednesday in a press release that it has lodged a public information request to both the county executive and Anne Arundel County Police Department, and plan to send a letter to the County Council requesting an investigation.  Leopold was indicted Friday on charges that he used his security detail improperly to conduct personal business and destroy campaign signs of an opponent. The indictment includes allegations that he instructed members of his security detail to produce dossiers on his political …
