The indoor air quality specialist who investigated concerns at the school will join school officials as they field questions Thursday night.
Public schools officials and the specialist who investigated health concerns at Edgewater Elementary will take questions and concerns from the school community Thursday night. Ed Light, indoor air quality specialist and president of Building Dynamics, will summarize his findings from his extensive study at the school. Since many of the parents’ concerns surround proactive maintenance at Edgewater Elementary, various officials will share their plans to ensure a healthy environment for students. Jenny Corkill, Edgewater Elementary PTA president, said Anne Arundel County Public Schools (AACPS) spokesman Bob Mosier told her that the AACPS Chief Operating Officer, Alex Szachnowicz, will field questions after Light’s presentation. “We really …

The indoor air quality specialist said in his report that the school poses no general health hazard for students.
Anne Arundel County Public Schools (AACPS) released the findings from the indoor air quality study at Edgewater Elementary Friday afternoon, telling parents the school’s “environmental conditions do not present a general health hazard.” The 31-page report, conducted by Building Dynamics and its president Ed Light, said Edgewater Elementary’s health concerns centered primarily on maintenance issues and equipment upgrades. Light said the school has problems with the structure of the building and its HVAC system, but said much of it has to do with the age of the building. The report didn't have loads of new information or details, but it showed a lack of effort by the public school system, Edgewater Elementary PTA president Jenny Corkill …

Concerned parents of Edgewater Elementary students packed the cafeteria and were unsettled by the lack of findings and easy fixes proposed.
The industrial hygienist who investigated health concerns at Edgewater Elementary spoke Tuesday night to a packed cafeteria full of concerned parents. Ed Light, president of Building Dynamics, told the crowd his main concerns with the school focused on “small mold growth and dampness" and that the problems could be fixed quickly and easily. He did not identify the situation as a "hazard," but said students with "sensitive immune systems" were more likely to experience agitation in the school's environment. “We have found that the dampness and the mold in the crawl space is a concern. That is our only identified health problem,” Light said. “We’re completing work within the next week to have very specific and easy recommendations to …

Parents can hear from the air quality specialist examining Edgewater Elementary School during a meeting Tuesday night.
The air quality specialist who recently investigated environmental health concerns at Edgewater Elementary School will speak at the school Tuesday night, discussing “preliminary findings” and answering questions. Anne Arundel County Public Schools (AACPS) spokesman Bob Mosier said the meeting was in no way a “final report,” but added that the meeting would be a great place for parents to get some questions answered. “[Ed Light] will be there to discuss the process, answer questions and then discuss some preliminary findings,” Mosier said. “It’s not a final report.” On Jan. 18, Mosier told Edgewater Elementary parents that Ed Light, president of Building Dynamics, would be reviewing the air quality of the school after parents claimed the …

A session will be held on Friday morning to discuss the school's conditions and address the concerns of parents.
Parents of Edgewater Elementary students will have another opportunity to meet with the specialist hired by Anne Arundel County Public Schools (AACPS) to examine the school's air quality. Edgewater Elementary parents reportedly received messages Tuesday inviting them to visit the school from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Friday to speak with Ed Light, president of Building Dynamics, an industrial hygiene and mechanical engineering consultant. Last week, AACPS brought in the consulting firm to review the air quality of Edgewater Elementary after a large number of parents claimed the school was making children sick with asthma-like symptoms. Light specializes in indoor environmental engineering and reportedly visited the school twice to examine the …

Anne Arundel County Public Schools (AACPS) informed Edgewater Elementary School parents Tuesday that their children’s school will receive the attention of Building Dynamics, an industrial hygiene and mechanical engineering consultant. The meeting went so bad!! I can’t even stomach some of the things that were said! We all have one thing in common and that is That EDGEWATER needs to be rebuilt and according to them it should have been a long time ago but for some reason other things took more importance than our school. I have two questions for anyone who can answer. What requirements do you need to become a Janitor in Anne …   more ›
