County Cop Involved in Animal Cruelty Investigation

Police are looking into the apparent neglect of a dog that was located in Lothian.

An 11-year veteran of the Anne Arundel County Police Department was placed on administrative duty with his police powers suspended while an investigation is conducted into his dog’s medical issues. Anne Arundel Animal Control received a call about the dog, a Shepherd mix, that was at large in the 800 block of Bayard Road in Lothian on Dec. 22, 2012. The dog was reportedly not microchipped, was wearing a collar without identification tags, and was underweight. Police said police veteran Stephen Harr and his wife, Cheri Harr, later contacted Animal Control about their dog and were told the dog was not being released due to extensive medical issues. Anonymous Donor Covers Free Pet Adoptions

From Nov. 13-17 all standard adoption fees at Anne Arundel County Animal Control will be paid for by an anonymous donor.

An anonymous donor is giving homeless pets and potential adopters something extra to be thankful for this Thanksgiving. Starting Nov. 13 and until Nov. 17, all standard adoption fees will be paid for by the benefactor, making pet adoption from Animal Control free for approved adopters. According to a release from the Anne Arundel County Police Department, it is the goal of the donor and the shelter to increase awareness about the thousands of adoptable animals searching for homes at Anne Arundel County Animal Control each year. The organization would also like to increase the number of animals adopted from the shelter.
