For $1 you can vote for your favorite baby to raise money for Anne Arundel Medical Center’s NICU.
The babies have been photographed and the voting has now begun for the next “Little Angles” calendar, which raises money for the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and Anne Arundel Medical Center. Over the past six years, Davidsonville photographer Linda McCarthy has raised more than $80,000 for the NICU with the annual calendar. Throughout the month of March, McCarthy recruited mothers who wanted their babies featured in the calendar. Then she shot portraits of the babies wearing angel wings. Now for $1 a vote, the public picks the 13 babies featured in the calendar—one for each month plus the cover. To vote for your favorite baby, just visit the website. Linda McCarthy with Visual Concepts in Davidsonville has been hard at work the last moth photographing babies for her annual “Little Angels” calendar, which raises funds for the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at Anne Arundel Medical Center. The voting process, which decides which babies will make it into the calendar, will begin April 8. The annual “Little Angels” calendar features photos of local babies. The project starts by recruiting mothers who want their babies featured in the calendar. McCarthy gathers as many babies as she can, and shoots portraits of them wearing angel wings. Over the past six years, Davidsonville photographer Linda McCarthy has raised more than $80,000 for Anne Arundel Medical Center’s neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) through proceeds raised from her Little Angel’s Calendar. Despite her fundraising success through her photography company Visual Concepts, McCarthy says it’s the moms of NICU babies that leave her most inspired. “I love the moms who come in and tell me their NICU stories—some of them have had babies that didn’t survive,” McCarthy said. “They give me strength and I am humbled by all of them.” McCarthy runs Visual Concepts out of her home in Davidsonville. A basement fire in Davidsonville sent one homeowner to the hospital with serious, but not-life threatening injuries.
A basement fire in Davidsonville sent a homeowner and a firefighter to the hospital on Saturday morning. Capt. Mike Pfaltzgraff of the Anne Arundel County Fire Department said it took 60 firefighters more than 30 minutes to put out the two-alarm fire in the 900 block of Malvern Hill Drive. The fire started around 7 a.m. on Saturday, and Pfaltzgraff said two people were inside when the smoke detectors went off. Emergency personnel transported a 57-year-old man by ambulance to Anne Arundel Medical Center with serious but not life-threatening injuries. The other person did not require medical attention. A 45-year-old firefighter also suffered minor injuries and was treated and released from Anne Arundel Medical Center. The cause of the fire …

One in eight American women and one in 1,000 American men will develop breast cancer at some point in their lives. It’s estimated that more than 2 million people are diagnosed with breast cancer and fight for their lives each year. Breast cancer is difficult to face alone—for both patients and their loved ones. To help in the battle, there are a number of local resources and support groups. A group called Moving Forward, which is for women diagnosed with breast cancer, their family and friends, meets on the first Wednesday of the moth from 6:30 to 8pm at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis, Health Science Pavilion, Suite 20. Donnie Neuenberger has recently started a foundation to help ailing children and patients fighting cancer and their families cope with the impact the disease can have on their lives.
A local NASCAR driver last week stopped by Anne Arundel Medical Center in Parole to visit with patients and sign some autographs. Donnie Neuenberger of Edgewater has been racing cars and trucks for 19 years and has competed in the NASCAR Nationwide Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. He began his first full season in the NASCAR Busch Series in 2004 competing for Rookie of The Year until his diagnosis of follicular non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a type of cancer, forced him to step out of the car after six races. He also withdrew from the Rookie of The Year competition.
