Update (1:04 p.m.)—Five people suffered minor injuries Wednesday night in a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Route 2 and Mayo Road, Anne Arundel County Fire Department Chief Michael Cox said. Firefighters and paramedics responded to a call of a motor vehicle accident at 10 p.m. Upon arrival medics found five people hurt on the scene, Cox said. The crash involved a black minivan and a white SUV, Anne Arundel County Police Department spokesman Justin Mulcahy said. The injured people were transported to Anne Arundel Medical Center with minor injuries, Cox said. An Edgewater woman told police her windows and doors were open because she didn't have electricity.
A man burglarized an Edgewater home that was without electricity on the Fourth of July, taking a purse and its contents, according to an Anne Arundel County Police Department press release. Police responded to a call of a burglary on the 100 block of Washington Road in Edgewater at about 2 a.m. Officers said the homeowner said she awoke when she heard noises in her house. The woman told police she saw a man she didn’t know exiting her house through an open door. The homeowner left her windows and doors open because the power was out due to Friday’s storm, according to the press release. Anne Arundel County police arrested two Department of Recreation and Parks employees Tuesday who are accused with stealing gas from county fuel sites. Jodie Frank Harbert, 44, of the 400 block of Summer Wind Way in Glen Burnie was charged with theft less than $1,000 and theft scheme less than $1,000. Preston Walter Perry, 44, of the 100 block of Main Street in Lothian was charged with theft less than $100. The Department of Recreation and Parks contacted police about employees who were involved in stealing gas from county fuel sites by using it for personal use, according to a police press release. Detectives examined reports and found that certain employees' gas usage was "substantially higher than the average use," prompting a criminal …

South River High School will be one of the sites of the SHRED-A-RAMA VI event. Residents can bring four boxes of personal documents for disposal.
Anyone with sensitive documents or other items in need of disposal can stop by South River High School Saturday for the SHRED-A-RAMA VI event The Police-Community Relations Council for Anne Arundel County will again sponsor the free event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Residents can bring up to four handheld boxes of personal documents to be deposited in a commercial shredder. Additional boxes will cost $2. “This is an ideal opportunity for residents to safely dispose of old tax and medical records, financial documents and other personal items to help prevent identity theft,” the police department said in a press release. Anne Arundel County police say the "Prescription Drug Take Back Day" filled 12.5 boxes with OxyContin, Percocet and fentanyl and other over-the-counter medications.
The Anne Arundel County Police Department collected more than 300 pounds of unused drugs as part of their annual "Prescription Drug Take Back" on April 28, according to a press release. In total, the county collected 12.5 boxes of various unused medications weighing approximately 363.87 pounds. Two previous initiatives held in 2011 had similar results with the combined collection of more than 575 pounds of unused/unwarranted medication. Sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Anne Arundel County Police Department, officers reported that area residents dropped off “several hundred bottles” of expired and unused medications, according to the release. A dead man was found behind American Legion Post 226 in Edgewater Tuesday afternoon.
A dead body was found Tuesday afternoon behind the American Legion Post 226 in Edgewater, but police said there are no signs of foul play. “Officers arrived and located an adult male, who was pronounced dead at the scene by fire personnel,” Anne Arundel County police spokesman Justin Mulcahy said. Officers arrived at the scene around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. Mulcahy said the final cause of death will be determined by the chief medical examiner in Baltimore. Mulcahy said he couldn't go into the specifics of the incident, but reinforced that preliminary investigations show that nothing suspicious occurred.

A south county man has been charged with attempted first-degree murder after he allegedly shot his girlfriend in the upper body during an argument Friday morning in North Beach. Officers arrested Kenneth William Mitchell II, 34, of the 600 block of Alabama Avenue, Friday morning for allegedly shooting his girlfriend, 26, according to a release by the Anne Arundel County Police Department. Around 2:05 a.m. Friday, officers were alerted of a domestic-related shooting on the 600 block of Alabama Avenue in North Beach. Mitchell pulled out a gun and shot the woman while arguing at the residence on Alabama Avenue, according to police. “The suspect was located and arrested without incident,” the release stated. UPDATE (10:10 a.m. Tuesday)—A 55-year-old woman was fatally struck Monday night by a Chevrolet Tahoe in the 5500 block of Muddy Creek Road, according to the Anne Arundel County Police Department. “[The Tahoe] was traveling south on Muddy Creek Road when it encountered a female pedestrian running into the roadway,” according to a police press release. Anne Arundel County Fire Department Lt. Keith Hamilton said a bystander was administering CPR to the woman before she died. Paramedics pronounced the woman dead at the scene after they responded to the area around 8:55 p.m., according to the press release.
