This week, Animal Control officers in Anne Arundel County seized a large number of animals from a Pasadena home, after investigating reports that they were not well cared for. Pasadena Patch reported Tuesday officers found 40 live animals at a home on the 8000 block of Lockwood Road. Several other dead animals were also found, and a majority of the animals reportedly had no access to clean food or drinking water. Charges are pending against the homeowner. In this case, it appears that Animal Control expressed concern about the living conditions of the animals, as well as a potential for the spread of rabies. For special promotions, the cost of adopting an animal from the Anne Arundel County animal shelter could be waived, thanks to a unanimous vote by the County Council on Tuesday. Alan Friedman, the county's government relations director, said the legislation will encourage more adoptions in the county. "This will hopefully find good homes for our pets, as well as reduce the number of animals that have to be euthanized," Friedman said. "And the fiscal impact is very minimal." The average cost of animal adoption, including spaying and neutering, from county shelters is $36, and can generate up to $340,000 annually.
