Fire Department Donates Defibrillators for Pools

The devices, which send an electric shock to the heart, will be distributed by the Connor Cares Foundation and are required on site at all public pools in Anne Arundel County.

Public officials were on hand Thursday morning in Annapolis as the Anne Arundel County Fire Department donated 15 old Automated External Defibrillators (AED) to the Connor Cares Foundation. An AED is a portable device that sends an electric shock to the heart to try and restore its normal rhythm. The donation was made in honor of new legislation, known as Connor's Law, that requires all public (and semi-private) pools to have an AED on site. County Executive John R. Leopold signed the law in July in honor of Connor Freed, who was 5 years old when he drowned in a Crofton swimming pool in 2006. The lifeguard on duty was reportedly not properly trained how to use an AED. Leopold and Fire Chief John Robert Ray made the presentation of the AEDs…

Fundraiser Could Purchase AED for Southdown Pool

Local pools are required to purchase the device that can help save lives. The Connor Cares Foundation is hosting a fundraiser in September to help purchase the machines for public and semi-public pools.

Southdown Pool in Edgewater is hoping to be one of many recipients that could get a free automated external defibrillator (AED) from a special fundraiser in September hosted by the Connor Cares Foundation.  In July, Anne Arundel County adopted a piece of legislation known as Connor's Law, that requires AEDs at all local public and semi-public pools. But for some long-standing pool organizations like Southdown, the $3,000 device is too high a price tag.  The special fundraiser, hosted by the Connor Cares Foundation, will occur at J. King's Restaurant in Gambrills on Sept. 15, and beneficiaries could include the Southdown Pool. The Connor Cares Foundation was founded in memory of Connor Freed, a 5-year-old boy who drowned in a Crofton pool …
