Located just off Solomons Island Road, behind Ledo's Pizza, Lee Airport is home to a few flight schools. Navy…More Annapolis Flight Center is the first row of buildings on the right, next to the red barn.
NAFC provides an opportunity to develop skills in aeronautics, piloting, navigation and other aviation sciences. President Jenny Wong says, "learning to fly is not as hard as you may think." From high school students to grandparents, she has seen them all come in to learn to fly and get their certificate. This allows the pilot to fly themselves and non-paying passengers virtually wherever they want to go in good weather.
For those interested in the cost to get started, the initiation fee is $50, and members dues are $200 for the year. A beginning student may expect to require 50 hours of flying. The total combined cost for ground school, charts and supplies, a medical exam and the flight test brings the cost of a private pilot license to between $3,500-$5,000.
NAFC is a FAA CATS testing center, and instructors have CFII, MEI and ATP credentials. Check the website for more information and to see the Cessna and Piper planes they use.
