Anne Arundel County Executive John R. Leopold was found guilty of two counts of criminal misconduct in office on Tuesday and Edgewater-Davidsonville Patch readers have some strong reactions to the verdict. Leopold faced a five-count grand jury indictment that included four counts of misconduct in office and one count of fraudulent misappropriation by a fiduciary. Leopold has been suspended from his duties in office and Chief Administrative Officer John Hammond is now serving as acting Anne Arundel county executive until a more permanent decision is reached. Bills in the House of Delegates and Senate would create a new standard where all dog owners are presumed liable for dog attacks, regardless of the breed of the animal.
Legislation overriding a Maryland Court of Appeals ruling that made landlords liable for pit bull attacks, and put owners at risk of being evicted or having to give up their dogs, will be heard Wednesday by the House Judiciary Committee. Identical House and Senate bills seek to create a new standard where all dog owners in civil action cases, regardless of the dog’s breed, are presumed liable for attacks unless owners can prove they did everything possible to avoid the attack, said Sen. Brian Frosh, sponsor of the Senate bill. It would also reverse the strict liability on landlords. “The interest groups: pet owners, landlords, and animal rights groups are pleased with it,” said Frosh, a Montgomery County Democrat who is also chairman of …

After the Newtown, CT school shooting, Maryland legislators are looking at a number of ways to make schools safer.
According to Annapolis Patch, delegates from Anne Arundel County are introducing legislation on Tuesday, Jan. 22 in hopes of increasing security and mental health services at public schools across the state. The proposed bill would also pay for an armed resource officer at each school. "If you really understand public schools in Maryland, you know this: They are becoming increasingly more difficult for classroom teachers because discipline is lacking at home and teachers are spending an increasing amount of time maintaining discipline in the classroom," said Del. Serving as your editor these last 13 months has been amazing, but it's time for me to pursue my next adventure.
After playing 127 games for the Birmingham Barons at the age of 31, Michael Jordan had a .202 batting average, 51 RBI and 30 stolen bases—pretty impressive for a guy who hadn’t played competitive baseball since high school. But, no matter how hard he tried, Jordan couldn’t escape the fact that at his core, he was a basketball player—one of the best ever. For me, Jordan’s baseball story rings true in my life. Since launching Severn Patch in the fall of 2010 and then taking over Edgewater-Davidsonville Patch in January 2012, I’ve written approximately 2,200 Patch posts and edited probably another 2,500. Here at Edgewater-Davidsonville Patch, we're always trying to do our jobs better. Patch's official mission is, "Making life ridiculously easy for you and your neighbors." So going into 2013, we want to touch base with you, the reader, and see what you'd like to see more in the next 12 months. We'll continue to do our best of providing breaking news, hyper-local content and top-notch commentary on national stories in the context of your community. I am now using Naturally Greener Landscaping for my yard. My yard looks better than ever and their prices are better than I was paying other providers. Not sure about mowing because I usually cut my own yard, but they are very competitive for treatments and mulching, flowers etc. more ›
