Football: Arundel Trounces South River, 49-6

The Wildcats used a balanced offense and stingy defense to move 4-0 on the year. The Seahawks fell to 2-2.

The Arundel High Wildcats continued to roll over their opponents, recording a 49-6 win over rival South River in Edgewater.

Arundel used a balanced offensive attack, with six different Wildcats scoring touchdowns. Jack Gordon and Cooper Hibbs combined for 165 yards passing, while running back Matt Davis ran for 85 yards on 12 carries, scoring twice.

Arundel went out to a 7-0 lead after Gordon hooked up with Devon Hawkins for a 6-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter.

South River quickly responded with a 49-yard touchdown strike from Connor Cox to Eric Young.

But after that, Arundel owned all the scoring, going up 14-6 after a Blake Thornton ran back the ensuing kickoff 95 yards.

Tyler Young also added a touchdown with a 43-yard punt return for a score, and Hibbs also ran for a 5-yard touchdown.

Cox did manage to throw for 195 yards for South River, but the Seahawks hurt themselves with 11 penalties.

With the win, Arundel remained unbeaten on the year, and will host North County next Friday. South River will play at Annapolis.
