Southern High Teen Receives Award for Academic Achievement

Chantel Henrique earned the recognition for excellence in the classroom and the community.

The Anne Arundel County chapter of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women (NCBW-AAC) honored Southern High School's Chantel Henriques on Saturday for her academic achievements and commitment to community service.

In a special awards breakfast ceremony at the Four Points hotel near BWI, Henriques earned the NCBW-AAC Academic and Community Service Scholarship that will go towards college.

“The special event … provides an opportunity to show our pride and faith in our young people by publicly honoring their accomplishments,” according to an NCBW-AAC release.

The nonprofit organization is comprised of professional women who joined together to improve the quality of life for African-American women, their families and communities, according to the release.
