South River High School raised $2,000 for a student who was recently diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma at a cut-a-thon on Thursday.
The school partnered with Hair Cuttery and stylists cut hair at the school Thursday evening for $10 a cut. The money then went to the student, who asked only to be referred to as Candice.
South River family and consumer sciences teacher Amy Szanyi said more than 100 people showed up for haircuts, including students and community members. Szanyi said the entire girls and boys lacrosse team at South River showed up for a cut.
Between the cost of the haircut and T-Shirt sales, Szanyi said they raised about $2,000. About 20 Hair Cuttery stylists participated in the event, and donated their tips as well as their time, Szanyi said.
If you couldn’t attend the cut-a-thon, you can pick up a flier from the school, or print the attached PDF and go to any Hair Cuttery in Anne Arundel County until Thursday and they will donate 20 percent back to the family.
