Shady Side Elementary will add half-day pre-K programs next year along with four other schools in Anne Arundel County.
Shady Side, Brock Bridge, Glen Burnie Park, High Point and Southgate elementary schools will each add pre-K to bring the grand total to 41 programs in the county, according to a release from Anne Arundel County Public Schools (AACPS).
“Public prekindergarten programs in Maryland were established to improve the school readiness of children who are economically disadvantaged, or homeless,” according to the release. “If seats remain, schools may enroll students with other readiness needs."
In order to attend pre-K, children must be 4 years old by Sept. 1.
Parents with children who qualify for the program can register beginning on May 1 for the 2012-2013 school year. To register, parents must sign up in person at the school where their child will attend.
AACPS recommends that parents bring the following documents when registering:
- The child’s original birth certificate record.
- A copy of the child’s immunization record.
- Two proofs of residency (rental or mortgage agreement and current utility bill).
