Woman Found Unconscious, Floating Under South River Bridge

Paramedics transported the woman to Anne Arundel Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Police and firefighters discovered a woman floating and unconscious underneath the South River Bridge on Friday morning.

Anne Arundel County Fire Department spokesman Chief Michael Cox said medics received a call of a reported open-water drowning just after 7 a.m. in the 2900 block of Solomons Island Road. When firefighters and paramedics arrived, police were already on the scene, Cox said.

Anne Arundel County Police spokesman Justin Mulcahy said officers responded and found an unoccupied vehicle atop the bridge and a body in the water. Mulcahy said there was “nothing suspicious in nature” about the incident.

“When our folks arrived, they were informed by the county police that they believed they had seen a body floating in the river in the area of water under the bridge,” Cox said. “We did get the fire boats in the water … they did pull a female estimated to be about 30 years of age from the water that was floating under the bridge.”

When medics pulled the woman from the water, she was “unconscious, unresponsive and not breathing,” Cox said.

Mulcahy said the woman was transported to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries. The Anne Arundel County Fire Department's Facebook page said the woman was transported to Anne Arundel Medical Center.

I am so sorry for your loss. My son Julian was KIA over this past Memorial Day weekend in Afghanistan. The loss of a child for any reason is just the worst nightmare ever. I will never get over it....I do not blame the military or the state or my country. I believe the same way President Kennedy does....don't ask what your country /state can do for you instead ask what you can do for your country/state....so to the people who want to make this about politics. Just stop it...you are lying....there is plenty of assistance out there for the mentally ill & disabled especially if they have under age children. The State had nothing to do with this young mother’s death. May God be with the family now and always.

Anyone know about another possible jupmer off the South River Bridge last night? I live at Liberty Yacht Marina and there was fire and rescue and a cop at the top of the bridge with a car on the shoulder. This happened around midnight 8/13/12 Monday.

I know what it is like to deal with social services!!! Depression is NOT a reason to take a child from its loving mother! They should have helped her instead of using her disease against her to get government money for taking her child! I hope there is close family to fight for her son. RIP Jamie I don't even know you but know what you were going through!
