Update (2:58 p.m.)—A 22-year-old Shady Side man who in the leg after a brief verbal dispute in West River on Monday turned himself in to police on Tuesday afternoon.
A police press release stated that the suspect, 22-year-old Danny Gay Jr., turned himself in to the Anne Arundel County Sheriff's Office at the Circuit Courthouse in Annapolis around 1:30 p.m.

However, a police statement released Tuesday morning clarified that information and reported that 22-year-old Danny Gay Jr. of Shady Side allegedly shot a 56-year-old following a verbal confrontation.
According to the police press release, officers responded to a reported shooting at the 1000 block of Friendship Lane in West River at about 6:12 p.m. on Monday. Upon arrival, officers found the 56-year-old lying on the ground in front of a house suffering from a single gunshot wound to his leg. Paramedics transported the victim to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore with serious but not life-threatening injuries, according to Anne Arundel County Fire Department Lt. Cliff Kooser.
After the incident, the alleged shooter ran from the scene in a maroon SUV, according to police.
Detectives identified the suspect as 22-year-old Danny Gay Jr., of the 1500 block of Lincoln Road in Shady Side, according to the release. Police are actively searching for Gay and described him as a black man weighing approximately 240 pounds and standing about 5 feet 10 inches tall.
