Patuxent River Road Crash Claims Two Lives

Police say a woman and a 14-year-old boy were both killed when their car struck a tree Friday night.

Two Davidsonville residents, including a teenager, were killed Friday night when their car stuck a tree on Patuxent River Road, according to Anne Arundel County Police.

Carrie Lynn Desmond, 36, of Davidsonville, was killed when the Ford Focus she was driving crashed into a tree in the 3600 block of Patuxent River Road near West Central Avenue, police stated in a press release. A 14-year-old boy, of the same address, was also killed.

Police responded to Patuxent River Road for the report of a single vehicle crash around 10:03 p.m. When officers arrived on scene they located a 2012 Ford Focus with two critically injured passengers inside, police said.

The Anne Arundel County Fire Department also responded and transported both victims via helicopter. Desmond was taken to University of Maryland Shock Trauma and the 14-year-old passenger was taken to the trauma unit of Prince George's Hospital Center.

Crash investigators from the Traffic Safety Section responded to the scene to collect evidence. According to police, the vehicle was traveling south on Patuxent River Road “when the operator failed to negotiate a curve in the road.” The car then left the road and struck a tree.

Desmond was pronounced dead at approximately 6:30 a.m. on Saturday. The 14-year-old passenger was pronounced dead at approximately 1:15 p.m. on Saturday.

The Traffic Safety Section is still investigating the accident and police said they have not determined if speed or alcohol was a factor in this crash. Anyone who may have further information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact the Traffic Safety Section at 410-222-8573.

Carrie's brother, TJ, was killed a few years ago when he struck a tree on Riva Rd. I cannot believe the family has to go through this again. I've kniwn the Desmonds since elementary school. My heart breaks for them.
