Man Burglarizes Home Without Power on July 4th

An Edgewater woman told police her windows and doors were open because she didn't have electricity.

A man burglarized an Edgewater home that was without electricity on the Fourth of July, taking a purse and its contents, according to an Anne Arundel County Police Department press release.

Police responded to a call of a burglary on the 100 block of Washington Road in Edgewater at about 2 a.m. Officers said the homeowner said she awoke when she heard noises in her house.

The woman told police she saw a man she didn’t know exiting her house through an open door. The homeowner left her windows and doors open because the power was out due to Friday’s storm, according to the press release.

Baltimore Gas and Electric Co. officials said the utility restored power to about 85 percent of its customers, but more than 12,000 residents in Anne Arundel County were still without electricity Wednesday morning.

Police said the man took only a purse and its contents. Officers used K-9 units to search for the alleged burglar but were unable to find him, according to the release.
