A citizen tip led police to an Edgewater woman charged with attempting to rob a gas station in Lothian and biting an officer, the Anne Arundel County Police Department said.

Sherry L. Hunt, 29, of the 1700 block of Forestville Road, was charged with robbery, disorderly conduct and four counts of second-degree assault in connection with the Dec. 6 incident.

Police said that at 8:31 a.m., officers responded to an attempted robbery at BP in the 5400 block of Southern Maryland Boulevard in Lothian.

A woman reportedly attempted to rob the business with a note and then left without any money, according to a statement from police, which said that a witness jotted down the suspect's license plate number.

Two employees inside the gas station were not injured, police said.

Police found a red Chevrolet Cavalier matching the description around 9:15 a.m. near Sands Road, the statement said. The woman was not there but police took the vehicle in for processing, police reported.

Through investigation, police identified Hunt as the suspect, located her and placed her under arrest, police said.

At the police station, Hunt became violent and bit an officer, according to the report, which stated she also assaulted several detectives.

Anyone with information about the attempted robbery or Sherry Hunt may contact Detective Keane of the Anne Arundel County Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division, Robbery Unit, at 410-222-3489.
