Patricia Cunningham, 50, was riding her bicycle on the southbound side of Riva Road when she collided with a minivan collided shortly after 5 p.m. Wednesday. She was an assistant coach at Annapolis High School.
Cunningham suffered serious injuries as result of the crash and was was taken to Anne Arundel Medical Center, where she later died of her injuries, according to police. The driver of the minivan, 37-year-old Whitney Decesaris of Huntingtown, was uninjured.
Police believe the cause of the crash was driver error. Alcohol and speed are not considered factors at this time. The state's attorney's office is being consulted to determine if charges will be filed in connection with the crash.
Anne Arundel County Public School spokesman Bob Mosier said Cunningham was "well known, and well liked," within the school system. She was an assistant track and cross-country coach at Annapolis High School since 2011. Additional resources have been offered for teachers and students who may need support after the incident, Mosier said.
