Anne Arundel County police tased the unofficial mayor of Edgewater, 48-year-old mentally disabled William “Boogie” Lawson Jr., in his home last week after he fled the scene of a police incident, according to The Capital Gazette. Police have reportedly apologized for the incident.
Lawson, known locally for watching police chases, left his home around 11 p.m. on Aug. 12 to watch police chase down a drunk driver in his neighborhood, according to the report. Police approached Lawson near his residence and instructed him to stop but he ran and was chased into his home, where an altercation ensued, reported The Capital Gazette.
Lawson was reportedly struck three times with a baton and police used a taser on him. He was then taken to Anne Arundel County Medical Center and later processed and booked for resisting arrest and failing to obey a lawful order, reported The Capital Gazette. The charges have since been dropped and police have apologized for the incident, the report said.
