A 6-year-old girl and her mother were assaulted in Lothian on Wednesday afternoon during an attempted strong-arm robbery, according to a release issued by Anne Arundel County Police.
According to police, a 31-year-old woman and her daughter were walking in the 1200 block of Whittington Drive in Lothian when they were approached from behind by a teenage boy.
The woman told police that the suspect demanded money and then punched her and knocked her to the ground. The suspect then proceeded to punch and kick the woman while trying to take her purse.
At some point, the victim's 6-year-old daughter tried to stop the attack on her mother and was stuck in the chest by the victim, police said.
The disturbance caused several neighbors to come out of their homes and intervene, and then the suspect fled on foot. Several police units, a K-9 unit and an air unit searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect.
The two victims were treated on the scene for minor injuries.
The suspect is described as a black man between 15 and 20 years old, approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall with close-cut hair.
