Hey there. My name is Goldie Locks, but my rescue friends all call me Goldie. I’m a Golden Retriever-Chow mix and weigh about 45 pounds, but still have some filling out to do. I’m only a year old and very much a puppy – sweet, playful, energetic, and eager to please. I was rescued out of a shelter in Maryland after being picked up as a stray. It's hard to believe that no one came looking for me, but here I am ready to find my new family and start my new life.
Mutts Matter set me up with a seasoned foster mom who started working with me right away on basic commands. She says I’m incredibly smart and learn quickly. I’m already potty-trained and crate-trained, and will go into and out of my crate with ease. I’ve learned sit, down, stay, and can walk pretty well on a leash most of the time. I still get wound up and excited as all puppies do, but with some practice and consistent exercise, I have so much potential. My foster mom thinks I would even be a great dog for agility or more advanced training.
Not only am I smart, but I’m a friendly and affectionate pup too. My foster home has two kids and two dogs living in it. I’m very loving with the kids and will curl up with them for a nap and love to play, but I also have some protective instincts. I have a tendency to try to herd the youngest one when we’re playing in the yard and can be a little mouthy sometimes, so I’m probably a better fit for a family with older kids (7+ years) who don’t require my unsolicited baby-sitting services.
My foster family recently left for something called “vacation,” so I’ve been staying in a doggie daycare full of a ton of fun dogs to play with. It’s incredible, and I love to play! The staff adores me and take breaks to hang out with me during naptime to give me belly rubs. They say I’m super sweet and match up well with younger or energetic dogs who like to play and roughhouse, but I can be a little too rambunctious for the older dogs. That’s why they have separate play areas for energetic pups like me, but we still have to take play breaks to practice our relaxation skills. This experience has been a great lesson in dog socialization for me. I’ve been exposed to all types of pups and behaviors, and have done really well here.
All in all, I’m a smart, confident pup that will do best in a structured environment. The right home for me will be with an active family, couple, or single-owner who will commit to exercise and daily walks to address my puppy energy level, and offer me a consistent routine. I’m not a couch potato dog and would actually make a great running partner. I love to go on runs with my foster mom, and I don’t get distracted by all the dogs and people we pass. I’m really eager to please, but will need leadership to ensure that I stay healthy and balanced.
Yes, puppies take some work and are a commitment, but I’m pretty great as far as puppies go. I don’t have any food or toy guarding issues, I’m not a destructive chewer, and don’t have separation anxiety. I don’t react to people on the street, but will let you know if someone is coming to the house or if I hear unfamiliar noises outside. I’m just doing my part to protect the home and family. I love attention and human praise as much as treats, so I’m very easily trainable and ready to join your family.
