1. Laura Neuman Named Anne Arundel County Executive
Laura Neuman, who was selected to be the new county executive, was greeted with a rush of applause moments after she received a majority vote Thursday from the Anne Arundel County Council.

2. UPDATE: Man Dies After Car Crashes into House
Police said Ryan Douglas Anderson, 20, of Harwood succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash on on Hillside Avenue at 9:02 p.m. on Feb. 16  at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma in Baltimore.

3. Girls Basketball: Seahawks Preparing for Postseason Run
South River's girls basketball team is fresh off a victory over Arundel in the county championship game and has earned a first round bye along with a No. 2 seed in the Class 4A girls basketball tournament. The team will play Monday against the winner of the Meade-Broadneck game in the second round of the tournament.

4. Rita's in Edgewater Opens Friday
In a sure sign that spring is right around the corner, Rita's Italian Ice began a new season on Friday.

5. Southern High Art Teacher Wins National Award
Southern High School
’s art department chair Michael Bell was honored with the William U. Harris Award of Excellence presented by the College Board.
