South River High senior Josh Mackin lost his battle with an extended illness on Sunday, according to close friends.
Mackin, who was 18, was set to graduate from South River in spring 2013.
Mackin’s friends and family are scheduled to honor him at various events throughout the week, including a life celebration memorial on Friday, a Christian burial on Saturday morning and a memorial bonfire Friday night in Edgewater.
A brief obituary by the George P. Kalas Funeral Home shows a list of when and where residents can attend the memorial services. A life celebration will occur from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home, while the burial will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Holy Family Catholic Church in Davidsonville.
Once news spread of Mackin’s passing, both Facebook and Twitter exploded as high school classmates and friends shared their memories and expressed sadness about his passing. Friends also created a Facebook page to honor Mackin, including a grassroots memorial bonfire after homecoming so students can remember their beloved friend together.
