The South Anne Arundel County Relay for Life Kickoff event is taking place this Saturday and the whole community is invited to attend.
Wes Baker, a teacher at South River High, told Patch the day-long event will include a chili cook-off fundraiser, door prizes and all the information teams need to participate in the 2013 Relay for Life event.
The kickoff will begin Saturday starting at 1 p.m. inside South River's gymnasium, Baker said.
Last year’s Relay for Life—an all-night fundraising and awareness event sponsored by the American Cancer Society—was a huge success despite rainy weather and overcast skies. Hundreds of volunteers packed into the South River gym amid the humid conditions to celebrate those who beat cancer and remember those who have passed away due to the illness.
“We have many fun activities planned, so please bring your fellow team members and anyone else who may be interested in learning about our amazing Relay for Life,” Baker said.
The 2013 South Anne Arundel County Relay for Life will be a “Re-Lei for Life,” a Hawaiian/beach-themed edition of the popular volunteer event.
