Young Artists Win Contest, Recognized by Giant Foods

Their artwork will be on display at the Giant on Solomons Island Road until Jan. 8.

Two young students from the Edgewater Beach community have personal artwork posted inside the local Giant on Solomons Island Road, thanks to the neighborhoods first ever art contest.

Hosted and sponsored by local resident Tara Clifford, the themed art contest called “What My Neighborhood Means to Me” allowed elementary and middle school children to submit their own works of art. Local art enthusiasts judged the competition and ultimately crowned Grace Pilar Ebel and Gus Baganz as the winners.

Grace created a painting that won the elementary level “best in show” while Gus’ photos won the middle level “best in show.”

Both of the young artists’ work is now visible at the local Giant on Solomons Island Road, and will remain there until Jan. 8.

Due to the contest's success, local resident Joan Scott said the Edgewater Beach community plans to make the event an annual occurrence.
