The owner of Beechnut Kennels in Edgewater has filed for a special exception to allow a commercial kennel at the current location on East Central Avenue, indicating that the business may be expanding.

According to the website, Beechnut Kennels was founded 1973 as a family-run boarding kennel and has since expanded to a dog daycare and a "socialized" kennel. The application for a commercial kennel, made by Beechnut owner Mildred Capone, may mean the business will getting even larger.

A hearing regarding the application will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday at 44 Calvert St., in Council Chambers.

Beechnut Kennels is located at 525 East Central Ave. in Edgewater.

I have boarded two cats at Beechnut. The cats are in a separate house; cages are large and in the center of the room is a play yard where they can exercise. Always been very pleased.
