The Maryland State Police, with input from the Maryland State Highway Administration, has declared a snow emergency for most counties in the state, including Anne Arundel.

Once a snow emergency has been declared, parking on roads and streets designated as snow emergency routes is prohibited, and drivers must use chains on tires that are not all terrain or snow tires, among other restrictions, according to the SHA.

These restrictions are in place until the snow emergency is lifted, the SHA said.

Exceptions can occur while a snow emergency plan, put into place by the county, is in effect. A specific route can be lifted and the remainders of roads in the county still can be under the snow emergency plan.

During a snow emergency drivers are required to use chains OR snow tires (all weather tires).

I wish someone would get the word out to the stupid drivers that don't know the law, if you have you windshield wipers on, you must have your head lights on. There were so many cars out on Rt 50 without any head lights in this weather. What idiots.

most cars today have all weather tires for snow I believe. we have so many laws in this state and county, how can anyone possibly know them all? I bet even the people making the laws don't know them all.
