The Doctors Express in Edgewater is sponsoring its First Annual Holiday Food Drive in partnership with Food Link Inc. of Annapolis in hopes of providing food and essentials for needy families throughout the region.
Designed to help alleviate hunger in the local communities, the program seeks non-perishable food items for distribution through Food Link’s programs.
According to Doctors Express donation coordinators, items most needed include:
- hearty soups
- beef stew
- canned tuna and chicken
- parmalat milk
- macaroni and cheese
- peanut butter and jelly
- grocery gift cards
Any non-perishable food item donation will be collected in the center from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. The donation center is located at 3059 Solomons Island Rd., Suite F-2 in the South River Crossing Shopping Center.
Since 1991, Food Link has donated goods and services to more than 100 recipient groups and charitable organizations in the county, including its emergency food pantry and emergency baby-supply pantry, according to its website. Forty-five percent of those served are working individuals and families, 34 percent are children and 20 percent are seniors.
