For four years, Dawn Risher has walked in the "Susan G. Komen 3-Day for a Cure" walk. The Riva resident doesn't really know anyone close to her that has had breast cancer, but she likes the yearly challenge of both walking and raising money. The raising money part is the thing that keeps Risher going. "I like asking people for money," she said. This year, she has done a couple of restaurant fundraisers, and last weekend she did a pink hair extensions event at her house. As part of breast cancer awareness month, the movie “Living Proof," starring Harry Connick Jr., will air on the Lifetime channel at 6 p.m. on Monday (Oct 10).  “Living Proof” is the true story of Dr. Dennis Slamon and the women who participated in drug trials for the breast cancer drug Herceptin. October is breast cancer awareness month. The We Believe Foundation is working to help young ladies and their families combat cancer on all fronts. Back in April, the We Believe Foundation helped Crofton's Courtney Quinn who is fighting a brain tumor with a charity lacrosse game. Foundation president Sarah Miller said they want to assist more young adults like Courtney and her son Matt, who battled testicular cancer, live healthy long lives. Gambrills’ Robert Andrews Salons and Spa is teaming up with the Bowie-based We Believe Foundation for a night to fight breast cancer. The foundation’s Pink Hearts of Hope Fund is set aside to help young women battling cancer. A Night of Pink Hope is an evening devoted to breast cancer awareness while honoring local survivors.
