Lost in all this, is that the original MAYO sewer system was a federal sponsored alternative,Read More environmentally sound system that was neglected by AA County and thus failed. The alternative system was installed because of the potential health hazards from failing septic systems in Mayo. With this plan, there is a potential for construction of 1400 new homes in the area, which exposes the existing and future home owners to a whole new range of REAL life and death dangers connected with rising tides and climate change. It is unfathomnable that there was not serious consideration given to alternatives that would not set this area up for future failure.

Maryellen, The appropriate way to control development is through zoning, not through artificiallyRead More restricted access to proper wastewater treatment. What that most often results in is people installing on-site (i.e., septic) systems in marginal areas, adding significantly to groundwater pollution. In areas that don't perc, it's not uncommon to see mound systems or other work-arounds. We agree with you that development in environmentally-sensitive, low-lying areas should be avoided and that the county should take steps to minimize their expansion.
