SRYA GU10 D1 team rocked this past weekend in their game against Asa Honey Badgers. The Honey Badgers came out strong with the first goal within the first two minutes of play. The Seahawks rallied with a goal a couple minutes later. At the half, score was tied 2-2. The Seahawks responded to half time adjustments and did a much better job clearing the ball from in front of their goal and playing aggressive defense on goal kicks. In the end, the Lil' Lady Seahawks topped the Honey Badgers 6-2. Way to go!!

GU10 D1 Seahawks: The Lil Lady Seahawks started this weekend's double header against the Fireballs on fire. Starting the game with a goal within the first two minutes of play, the Seahawks controlled the first half, scoring three time and giving up just one goal. Goalie Rebecca while capturing anything that came within her reach, booted the ball the length of the field on multiple occasions. Mary Beth while playing defensive back, stole the ball, maneuvered around the attacking player and kicked the ball up the sideline at least a half dozen times. All the girls played great. During the second half, the Lady Seahawks maintained their composure and controlled the game to smoke the Fireballs in a 5 - 2 victory.

Sunday's game against the Dynamite is another challenge. We played the Dynamite in a pre-season scrimmage and lost 0-3. The Lil' Ladies are totally pumped to show the Dynamite who's got the explosive power.

KAW KAW!!

GU10 D1 Seahawks: Our girls started strong today out hustling the Dynamite girls, beating them to the ball. Dynamite is a strong team with a lot of speed and talent. Our Lil' Lady Seahawks played aggressive defense and handled the ball well on offense to control the game first and second halves. The Seahawks ends the weekend with a second win, 2-0. Great playing girls!

Girls U10 D3 – September 15, 2012
In the first game of week 2, the Lady Seahawks showed up to battle the Broadneck Bears. With a combination of returning players and some new players this season, the girls really came together as a team, in just the second week of play. Weeks of practice and hard work were quite evident as the girls passed, attacked, and shot the ball. They controlled the majority of the game, and with the aggressive play of mid-fielders Dustin Nose and Bethany Yamaner, they were able to maintain the ball on the Bears end of the field for a good portion of the game. The parents were super excited to finally see the girls taking so many shots on goal. There appeared to be an invisible barrier blocking the goal as shot after shot nearly missed adding to the Lady Seahawks’ lead, provided by first-time scorer Lexi Parker. In the end, there wasn’t a parent left sitting, as everyone was on their feet, cheering the girls to their 1-0 victory over the Bears. The girls definitely played like a well-coached team. Unfortunately, head coach Dan Waz was not there to see the win, but he was able to follow the game through numerous texts from his wife. He was definitely proud of his girls!

Girls U10 D3 – September 16, 2012
As the girls took on the Severn Athletic Club Wildcats, they continued their 110% effort and teamwork from their game the previous day. The Wildcats took an early 2-0 lead, as the Lady Seahawks had a little difficulty playing against “bunch ball” style soccer. They quickly adjusted and began demonstrating that they actually pay attention during practice (not always evident at practice), as they implemented the skills that they are learning. Again, the parents were on their feet cheering, as the girls controlled much of the game and took lots of shots on goal. Balls that did cross mid-field were rocketed back up field by the strong leg of defender, Ashlyn Adams. Mackenzie Hall stepped up to play goalie this weekend, with very little training. In fact, the first time she was introduced to punting was just before the game, yet she punted the ball like a seasoned professional throughout the game. The Lady Seahawks rallied back to tie the Wildcats 3-3 with scores by forwards Kristin Lee and Christina Piczak. The girls look forward to facing the Wildcats again in the second half of the season. Again, a tremendous effort by the girls makes for a very proud coaching staff!

In the third weekend of play the U10 D3 Lady Seahawks began their game against Mountain Road shorthanded with only 5 players. With the open field the Lady Seahawks played extremely aggressive on the offensive side of the ball from the beginning, not letting the opponent’s defense set up or clear the ball. As reinforcements showed up for the game, the Lady Seahawks took full control of the game. Tied 0-0 to start the second half, Lady Seahawk offense of Lexi Parker, Kristen Lee, Christina Piczak, Ashley Lobos and Emma Lambert increased the pressure on the Mountain Road’s defense. Emma Lambert opened up the scoring by racing down the left side of the field and rounding the corner against a physically bigger defender, refusing to quit, she was relentless. Christina Piczak and Lexi Parker added to the tally with goals themselves. Midway through the second half with the game well within control, the Lady Seahawks relieved goalie Ida Rask who recorded the team’s second shutout of the season and placed her on the Lady Seahawk offensive line where she used her speed and aggressiveness. Next up for the Lady Seahawks is the Monsignor Slade Roadrunners.

The SR Boys U13 Blues defeated the Baltimore Stars on Saturday. The Blues scored the 1st half's only goal when Michael Catapano dribbled through four defenders and then blasted the ball into the net from 15 yards out. The Blues dominated the half with SR goalie Ben Talbott only needing to make one save.

In the second half, the Blues continued to control the game and Alden Sullivan soon doubled the lead to 2-0. Patrick Garcia scored the Blues third goal by finishing a long cross from Princess Talbott. After the Baltimore East team scored its only goal of the game, Jared Mundie and Mitchell Hattar netted goals to assure the win for South River.

The South River defense was anchored by Dylan Cyphers, Jack Sykes, Justin Bowersox, and Andrew Falsone who rarely allowed Baltimore to get past midfield.

The D3 U10 SRYA Lady Seahawks almost completed an upset of second place Monsignor Slade Saturday loosing a close match 3-2. The Lady Seahawks routinely pressured Slade's defense with quick counter attacks peppering their goal with shot after shot but Slade's goalie seemed to be in the right place every time.

Kristen Lee tied the game at 1 and opened the scoring for the Lady Seahawks with a thundering right-foot shot from 12 yards out striking the top of the net. The game was evenly matched for most of the game with end-to-end play. Late in the game, Bethany Yamaner took the ball at the top of the penality box, dribbling to her left while fending off a defender slipped the ball past the Slade goalie into the far-side lower corner of the goal. Even though the Lady Seahawks lost the game they played aggressively and almost pulled the upset. We will get them next time!

The U10 Lady Seahawks opened the seeding rounds of the Arundel Cup soccer tournament this weekend. The Seahawks opened up against a familiar foe Jessup. In the first 10 minutes of play, Seahawk goalie Mackenzie Hall saved a penalty kick to keep the game tied at 0 - 0. The Seahawks' forwards repeatedly pressured Jessup's goal with fast counter attacks. Unfortunately, the Seahawks lost 0 - 1 as a result of an unlucky deflection off a Seahawk defender into their own net.
In game two against Division 2 ASA Panthers, the Lady Seahawks beat the Division 2 Panthers 1 - 0 with a goal from forward Ashley Lobos. Defenders Dusty Nose, Ashlynn Adams, and Bethany Yamaner kept stride with the Panther’s offenders.
In game three against Division 1 ASA Honey Badgers, the Lady Seahawks Christina Piczak and Kelsey Hall dominated play in midfield and offensively and shut out the Honey Badgers by a score of 2 - 0 with two goals from Kristen Lee.
With their hard work, and aggressive style of play, the Lady Seahawks earned a second placed seed in the championship round next weekend.

GO SEAHAWKS!

The U-10 Lady Seahawks rolled this weekend beating Severn Athletic Club Wildcats 2 - 0. Forwards Emma Lambert, Lexi Parker, Kristin Lee, Ashley Lobos, Madalyn Pierce, Kaitlyn Waz, and Ida Rask and Forward/midfielders Christina Piczak and Kelsey Hall put continuous pressure on the Wildcats' defense keeping the ball in the Wildcats' end of the field most of the game. Lady Seahawks' defense of Dusty Nose, Ashlynn Adams, and Bethany Yamaner played aggressive, physical soccer. Seahawk keeper Mackenzie Hall secured the shut out with a fantastic save against a Wildcat breakaway. With 3 games to go in the season, the Lady Seahawks are playing good soccer and earning the respect of their opposition.

The U10 Lady Seahawks continued their winning ways with a strong victory over the Broadneck Bears 2-1. From the onset, the Lady Seahawks pressed play into the Bear’s defensive end of the field. Controlling tempo and the ball the Lady Seahawks forwards of Lexi Parker, Christina Piczak, Kristin Lee, Emma Lambert, Ashley Lobos, Ida Rask, Kelsie Hall, Maddie Pierce and Kaitlyn Waz peppered the Bears’ goalie with shot after shot. Finally, The Seahawks were able to penetrate Broadneck’s defense with a goal from Christina Piczak.

Even with the lead, the Lady Seahawks did not let up. Christina added a second goal to her tally with a booming right foot from 18 yards out into the top of the net.

The Bears, hungry as bears are, did not give up and their effort was rewarded with a very late goal.

With two more games to go in the season the Lady Seahawks are in third place in their division.

The U10 Lady Seahawks played two very hard fought games in the Arundel Cup over the weekend.

Earning third seed over all, they opened up against Division 1 Peninsula Dynamite. Kristin Lee scored early in the game for the Lady Seahawks on a goal mouth scramble. Being a Division 3 team, the Lady Seahawks played their Division 1 opponent evenly. The defense of Dusty Nose, Bethany Yamaner, Ashlynn Adams and goal keeper Mackenzie Hall kept the Dynamite forwards marked and out the ball of the goal until a phantom handball call was made against the Seahawks in the penalty box. Just prior to the call, keeper Mackenzie Hall had a brilliant save sacrificing her body (face) blocking a point blank shot. Dazed, sore, and shaken Mackenzie almost saved the ensuing penalty kick.

Making a change at keeper, placing Bethany Yamaner in goal, the Seahawks continued to play their upper division opponent evenly with quick counter attacks. With the game tied 1- 1, late in the game, a game deciding penalty was called against the Seahawks in the penalty box. Bethany Yamaner stopped the initial penalty kick, but the Dynamite shooter picked up the rebound and scored the go ahead goal.

The Lady Seahawks lost the game 2-1 but proved to their opponents and onlookers that this Division 3 Team can play with any Team, regardless of their division.

In the second game of the day, the Lady Seahawks went up against their arch nemesis Jessup. The Seahawks played very well counter attacking Jessup’s potent offense with quick outside runs. The offense of Lexi Parker, Emma Lambert, Christina Piczak, Kristin Lee, Maddie Pierce, Ashley Lobos, Kelsie Hall, Ida Rask and Kaitlyn Waz ran end-to-end in what amounted to their second hour-long game within 3 hours and their third game in 2 days. Even with all the desire and leaving it all out on the field, the Lady Seahawks fell short in the end losing to Jessup.

Coach Dan, Assistant Coach/Manager Jill, and Assistant Coach Line (as well as the Moms and Dads) were extremely proud of the girls’ efforts. Their level of play has grown by leaps and bounds, their support of their teammates, their never-say-die effort, their understanding of the game of soccer grows with each game they play.
