Officials said she suffered significant facial injuries, but that they were not life threatening.

A 21-year-old woman suffered serious facial injuries Thursday morning when a horse kicked her in the face in Harwood

According to Battalion Chief Steve Thompson of the Anne Arundel County Fire Department, paramedics responded to the 3900 block of Old Birdsville Road in Harwood shortly before 9 a.m. Thursday. Upon arrival, they found a 21-year-old woman with critical injuries.

Thompson said the woman sustained significant facial injuries after being kicked in the face by a horse. Her injuries were critical, but not life threatening, he added.

Paramedics transported the woman to the Shock Trauma center in Baltimore for treatment, Thompson said.

My grandchildren take horse back riding lessons and I'm very GREEN where horses are concerned, but I learn by watching. Does anyone know WHAT the woman was doing with the horse at the time she got kicked? Horses seem to "spook" easily so I wonder if she innocently did something that just frightened the horse....
